Five Years of Getting Schooled at 5Point
2012 Celebration takes place 4.26 – 4.29!
Carbondale, CO — Films are for the angst ridden, turtleneck wearing, clove smoking crowd, or so I thought. And while I love to ski, Warren Miller’s annual ski porn movies were always about a reel too long for my liking. But five years ago, Julie Kennedy put together a film festival, right here in Carbondale, CO, with a grand idea: to inspire adventure of all kinds, to connect generations through shared experience and respect, to engage passion with a conscience, and to educate through film. How could I not go?
The 5Points experience far exceeded expectations that first year, and has made me an eager customer every year since. Films were grouped to demonstrate the five points of 5Points – respect, commitment, humility, purpose and balance – plus, there were book signings, panel discussions, ice cream and plenty of time to actually meet the people seen on the big screen. But the most amazing thing was the vibe. The energy, inspiration and excitement in the audience were truly palpable. Kennedy hit the mark with the 5Point Film Festival and she’s managed to up the fun factor year after year. From my kids sitting in Yvon Chouinard’s lap while he recounted climbing stories, to painting in the park with Jennifer Lowe-Anker, special release screenings, art exhibits and having opportunities to meet the artists all make for an amazing event. Film lengths vary, but are always just the right length to tell the story and make your curious to dig deeper. This year’s schedule is more packed than ever, and spring has sprung early in the Rockies. Which means it’s a great time to come to Carbondale, experience an inspiring 5Points celebratory weekend and have your own adventure in the Roaring Fork Valley – the screening and event schedule are designed with plenty of time to hit the trails, wet a line or hop on the river.
And, turns out, this is more of a flip-flop, fleece and Fat Tire crowd just looking for fun. Make this your year to come experience 5Points –you’ll be happy you did!
