A better mousetrap? …. Maybe.

These aluminum tent stakes are truly revolutionary.  Utilizing a unique wing design and a stainless steel braided cable, Toughstake™ has developed a system that can withstand significant wind. Having just returned from a multi-day camping trip in Everglades National Park in Florida, I can attest to their holding power. We had two sides of a “Wing” tent” secured by Toughstakes ™ with the other two being tied off.  One was tied to a 17′ kayak that got pulled off the sand in the high winds while the other was tied to a full, 5 gallon water jug that was also dragged across the sand.The Toughstake™sides never budged.

This cross section shows how this product works.  It is much easier than it looks, simply attach the cable and push the stake in the ground.  It will take a time or two figure out the length of the cable and therefore the distance from the tent, but it is simple enough. The company claims that they hold 10x greater than average tent stakes. I can’t measure that, but, in my experience, they are fantastic for sand and snow applications.  They nest well and take up very little room as an addition to your tent bag.  They come in three different sizes, we used the small for 2 person tents and the medium for the wing, and can be found at www.toughstake.com and retail from $24.99 to $39.00 depending on size and quantity.
