Fishpond Aussie Nippers

Written by

This is a nipper that really fits my needs. It is inexpensive, simple, and cuts line. Having left nippers on a boat in the Bahamas, a rock on the Roaring Fork, a stump in SC, and just plain lost, inexpensive is important to me. The Aussie is the epitome of simple. There is no nail knot tool, eye cleaner, hook sharpener, threader, compass, etc. This is a small tool with a stainless steel guillotine that I have used on lines ranging from 8 to 80lbs, and Fishpond says will cut up to 150lbs. In the other end is a large hole so that it may be hooked to a zinger or looped on a piece of fly line that can be fastened to your clothing or equipment. There are smooth corners and it is made of an incredibly lightweight plastic, so I just put mine in my pocket. On my last trip, it was used by me, my fishing partner and the guide because it was easier and simpler than what they had. Be aware that putting the Aussie Nipper down on the gunwale when the wind is 20+mph is not a good idea. No, I saved it in midair. And, at only $8.95 each, I have another pair around. www.fishpondusa.com has a store locator for a fly shop near you.
