I have the great privilege to live and play in the mountains of Colorado. Without question, the most difficult part of that equation is the unpredictability of the weather. But the Icebreaker Quest Crewe, a short sleeve merino and Lycra blend running shirt, is a great equalizer. Sure it has great features, like the strategically placed zipper pocket for fuel and a notched neck for easy on and off, but the overall fit and function of the material put it over the top.
The 96% merino blend keeps your body temperature fairly regular, even when its wet. Add the wool mesh panels under the arms and, even with maximum effort, the shirts seems to breathe adequately. With just the right amount of stretch and a body hugging fit, the Quest also works well under a pack.
Today’s run was a perfect example of the functionality of this shirt. I started out at over 9,000 in elevation for 14 mile training run. It was a slow run, and I saw 25-degree temperature swings and passing showers the entire time. But I stayed comfortable and chafe free, even with a wet backpack.
